Jane Corsellis studied at the Byam Shaw School of Art in London, beginning in 1960. She was awarded the Leverhulme Scholarship and the final year Painting Prize. While still a student she exhibited at the Young Contemporaries Exhibition and at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.
After leaving Byam Shaw in 1962, she painted for a year in Spain before returning to teach for two years. In 1972 she moved with her family to Hong Kong where she had a solo exhibition. Having returned to England for a few years, she then moved to Ottawa, Canada for three years (1979-81), where she held a solo exhibition. In 1983, Corsellis was elected an associate of the Royal West of England Academy. She lived in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for three years (1987-90), during which she visited and painted in India, Thailand, Bali and Australia. Since then she has spent time painting in Italy, France and India. In the UK she paints in London and in Pembrokeshire in South Wales.
Corsellis was elected to the New English Art Club in 1976. The following year, in 1977, she was elected to the Royal Society of British Artists. Since 1985 she has had a series of very successful solo exhibitions at the New Academy Gallery in London, the most recent in November of 2004. She was elected a member of the Royal Society of Painters in Watercolour in 1995, and a member of the Royal Cambrian Society in 2002. In 1998 she held a solo exhibition at the Hollis Taggart Gallery in New York. Corsellis exhibits regularly at exhibitions of the New English Art Club, the Royal Watercolour Society , and from time to time in other galleries and exhibitions. In September of 2000, she was a finalist in the Garrick Milne portrait competition. She has produced a number of lithographs with the Curwen Studio. Her book Painting Figures in Light was published by Watson and Guptill in 1982. Since then, her work has been featured in a number of books and films, including the APV Films productions Landscapes in Oils (2000)and Coastal Watercolours (2004).
Corsellis’ work is in numerous corporate and private collections in the UK, North America, Europe and the Far East. Her most recent one-man show was at Messums Gallery, London in November 2006.
