Serbousek was born in North Dakota and spent his youth in the fields, open lands and deserts of Montana, Colorado, Arizona and Utah. His formal studies began at a Salt Lake high school art class. He won several honors and awards at the state level and won a scholarship to Salt Lake Community College, where he studied Graphic Design and received his Associate's Degree. In 1992 he was named the "Utah Ducks Unlimited Artist of the Year" for a pheasant painting that was made into a limited edition print. His work is included in many private collections throughout the world.
